Sales Terms and Policies
I do not require contracts on my cats. I base my
decision to sell you a cat based upon my subjective judgment of your character,
ethics and love of animals. I don't think values can be governed by a
contract. When you pay for an animal, the cat is yours; however, I expect
you to be a person of integrity and to act in the best interest of the cat.
I would far rather my animals have a wonderful home for life than become cattery
cats with little human contact.
I do not restrict to whom or to where the offspring of my cats
can be sold; with the exception that if a breeder restricts me, I ask that you
restrict them.
If any genetic defects occur, I will replace or refund
purchase price, provided the animal is the condition it was when purchased.
However, if I refund/replace, I generally require that you spay/neuter and
return ship at your expense or provide proof of placement in a pet home.
If I feel the cat has been neglected, I may take it back, but I will not refund.
If I have young kittens in my home at the time, I may be unable to accept return
shipment and require that you place the animal.
Unless I feel the animal's quality changes or you
are buying multiple animals, my prices are not negotiable. I
feel that I price my cats fairly, and if you do not like the
price, then don't purchase the animal.
If you disagree with my assessment of the quality of the animal shipped, I will
accept the animal returned within 48 hours of receipt. I will pay return
airline shipping costs and will refund your purchase price. I will not
accept the return of an animal after this because of health issues, but I will
work with you if there is a reasonable issue.
I price an animal based upon its quality when shipped. I
cannot guarantee it's ultimate quality as an adult.
I cannot guarantee than any animal will become a Grand
Champion. If I sell a cat as "top show," it is an animal that I feel will
grand easily in tough competition if well presented, based upon my assessment of
quality at the time the kitten is shipped and assuming proper presentation.
The best cat ever bred will not perform well in the show ring if it is not well
groomed, and conversely, and an exceptionally well presented animal will usually
beat a superior animal in lesser condition. If you are a novice, I
will assist you in any way I can with grooming and conditioning, provided you
are diligent and responsible in keeping up the animal. Persians are very
high maintenance, and require constant, daily upkeep to maintain proper show
condition.
My pricing will generally increase if I keep an
animal for an extended period of time, such as with the United
Kingdom's Passport for Pets program or if the purchaser wishes the cat
shown prior to being shipped. In general, I prefer not to do this, but
I have made exceptions. I prefer not to ship to countries with
lengthy quarantine programs, but have made a few exceptions based upon
the quality of the quarantine facility.
I price my cats based upon my assessment of the
quality of the animal, not upon who is buying it, nor what country
they live in.
I ask that if you purchase a cat with show or breeding
rights that you consider the quality of life of the animal and place it in a pet
home if you wish to part with it -- especially, if she/he has already
produced a couple of litters.
In general, I don't believe that there is a single instance
where I have mislead, cheated, or otherwise placed/sold an animal to anyone,
ever. While I expect references on you, you should also check out me --
from those people that have had actually business dealings with me.
My basic philosophy is the golden rule:
Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you!
Commitments on Kittens
I have various terms to indicate the relative availability
of kittens, Reserved, Sale Pending and Sold.
Reserved - Buyer
has a very serious interest in the kitten, and will have first
right if refusal, if I have another buyer that wants the kitten.
Does not require a deposit. I will not reserve a kitten that
is under 6 weeks of age.
Sale Pending -
(generally) 1/3 deposit paid on kitten at about 8-10 weeks which is refundable if the kitten "goes
off" and doesn't develop to the assessed quality, including
such thing as a tooth off, poor coat factor, major ears, knee problems,
etc. If the buyer simply changes his/her mind, this deposit is
not refundable, but may be applied to a different kitten.
Sold - The kitten
is paid for and either shipped or to be shipped shortly. I keep
my kittens for at least 12 weeks if they are to be shipped.
Replacements
- If you have paid for a kitten that you are not satisfied with
(returned within 48 hours), had a genetic defect documented by a
veterinarian, or I have accepted money for an animal that did not
develop to expectation at the time of shipment, you will have the
option of receiving a refund (less actual shipping cost) or to be at
the front of the line in selecting any new kittens that I have
available. If you choose to return a second kitten for any
reason other than a genetic defect, I will refund your money but will
not send another kitten. In saying this, I have never had
a single kitten returned.
Pricing on Kittens
and Cats
Retired Adults - I very, very,
very rarely place adults with breeders. If I do, it is generally
with a very close friend. I normally look for an excellent
pet home. As pets, I do not charge for adults, but require they be neutered
or spayed and may require that I perform the surgery with my vet.
Spay/neuter costs and any shipping will be the responsibility of the new
owner.
Pet Kittens - I charge $400 for my
pet kittens, regardless of quality unless I specifically want the kitten to go
to a show home. However, the quality of the home is always more important than
the price or show potential of the kitten. Persians are wonderful animals,
but they are also very high maintenance.
While my pet kittens occasionally have slightly longer
noses than my show cats, I do not get
longer nosed persians. If you are looking for a "doll faced"
persian, you've come to the wrong place. Pets are never sold with
breeding rights.
Premiership - I have had very few
cats of my breeding shown in premiership, but would love to work with Newbies
just getting started at the shows or with experienced premiership exhibitors.
I typically charge pet, or near-pet prices, for premiers without breeding
rights. In some cases, I may place a cat at no cost in an experienced
premier show
home - assuming that the exhibitor intends to keep the cat as a pet when it's show career
is over and is a proven exhibitor. Most of the cats that I place in
premiership will be males of show or top show quality.
Breeder Quality - I don't produce
very many breeder quality cats. In general, the cats I place as breeders
are females with fabulous pedigrees that I don't feel represent my cattery well
in the show ring. Alternatively, a breeder may be a cat with a minor fault
that I feel inhibits it's show career. An example is a show cat that has a
tooth off, a tongue that tips, tiny nares, or a skull bump. In general,
these are cats that I feel will be an asset to a breeding program because of
their pedigree, but that I don't feel belong in a show ring. Males with
these faults are sold as pets. Breeders are typically priced
between $800-$1200.
Showable Breeder -- As with breeders,
these cats are generally females. These cats have no major faults and
should have no problem achieving their championship within CFA, but are not cats
that I feel are "easy" grands -- however, I have had several cats grand that I
sold in this category. Prices range from about $1200-$1500.
Show
Quality -- A show cat is generally a CFA Grand Champion
quality cat. I generally will not sell a male with
breeding rights (other than a very minor fault) unless I consider him of
this quality. A cat priced as a show cat should final and be grandable if properly presented. In general, this means that I
feel that I could grand the cat , if I were showing it myself.
I expect a show cat to make some finals in most local shows if
well presented, depending upon competition present. This is a cat that I am proud to have my name associated with in the
show ring. The vast majority of cats that I sell to show homes
are of this quality, and the vast majority have granded in CFA. The
most of cats that I have sold to show homes have fallen into this
category -- including a CFA Regional Winner and several of one-show CFA grands. Show cats are priced
between $1800-$2200.
Top Show
Quality -- A top show cat is an animal that I find very
difficult to part with. These are generally the animals that I
want to keep and show myself, and part with only because I don't have
room, am showing something else and want the animal shown, you get me
at exactly the right instant, you are a special friend, or I feel that
you can do the kitten more justice than I can. In each year of
breeding, there are only a couple of cats that I feel are top
show... Thus far, all I have sold in this category have granded
in CFA -- all in fewer than 3 shows (most in one), most have
taken Best AB wins, and most been highest scoring cat or kitten
in at least one show. Top show cats are generally $2500, but on rare
exceptions, could be higher.
